Part 1 of Gearing up to paint outside!

Clothing
1. Wear dull colors to reduce reflection onto the painting or palette.
2. Dress in layers to accommodate any change in weather as it changes on a dime in MO.
3. Wearing sunglasses will change the values and colors you see so wear a hat.
4. Take a poncho or plastic bag for the unexpected rain shower.

5. Wear appropriate shoes. (My flip flops have failed me many times.)
Gear
1. Use non-breakable container for solvents.
2. A cart on wheels really makes it easy if you have back or shoulder problems.
3. A plastic bag for paint towels.
4. Take a drying box or container to carry wet paintings home.
Health
1. Be sure to have plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
2. Pack healthy and nutritious snacks.
3. Wear long sleeves and remember to apply sunblock cream to exposed skin.
4. Don't wear perfume or cologne, as it attracts bugs. We have lots of them in MO!

Part 2: Painting outdoors in the winter

Clothing:

1. Ditto on the above suggestions, but add more layers for winter.

2. Insulated under ware

3. Mitten covered fingerless gloves

4. A stocking hat for under your brimmed hat.

Gear:

1. The well known Kansas City watercolor artist, Jim Hamil, told me he once put an alcoholic beverage in his water to keep it from freezing! Just a thought folks..... :)

2. Hand warmer packs. You can find them in the camping gear section.

3. Thermos for a hot drink
